Professor P.K. Kannan, the Ralph Tyser Professor of Marketing at the University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business, is an expert on marketing intelligence. He visited the School in mid-October and was invited by the Corona Chair Program for Distinguished Visitors.
Professor Andrés Barrios highlighted the importance of bringing professor Kannan to Uniandes: “One of the main aspects is that this international visitor will help us reforming the Marketing Intelligence Specialization in the Faculty” (…) “Also to share knowledge in marketing analytics with three audiences: Students, faculty, and alumni”.
Professor Barrios explained that “the visit of Professor Kannan to Uniandes will bring interest to current professors to research in Marketing Analytics, and help us to identify potential candidates for recruitment.
Professor Kannan spotlighted the University facilities and the professional level of our students. That is why he hopes to come back soon to continue working together with the faculty members.
After the visit, Professor Barrios assured that there is interest from some faculty members to start working together with Professor Kannan.
ABOUT P.K. KANNAN
P.K. Kannan is the Ralph Tyser Professor of Marketing and, since 2017, the Dean’s Chair in Marketing Science at the University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business. From 2010 until 2016, he was the Chair of the School of Marketing. He holds a Ph.D. in Management (1988) from Purdue University and a Post Graduate Degree in Industrial Engineering from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering of Mumbai, India.
Among his research interests he focuses on marketing modeling using statistical and economic methods to marketing data. Along these broad domains, his current work focuses on media mix modelling, attribution modeling, customer-relationship management (CRM) and the development of new products or services.
Professor Kannan has received several grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Mellon Foundation, and SAIC. He has published in Marketing Science, Management Science, Journal of Marketing Research, and Journal of Marketing. His research has also won the prestigious John Little Best Paper Award (2008) and the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science Practice Prize Award (2007). He has won the AMA/MSI Paul Root Award twice (2014, 2016).
Professor Kannan is Associate Editor for Journal of Marketing Research, and Journal of Marketing, a Senior Editor for International Journal of Research in Marketing and serves on the editorial boards of the Marketing Science, Journal of Service Research, and International Journal of Electronic Commerce. Dr. Kannan has served as the Chair for the American Marketing Association SIG on Marketing Research and is chairing the INFORMS Service Science section
